I use the serenity prayer:

god grant me the serenity to accept the things I can not change; the courage to change the things I can; and the wisdom to know the difference

as a coping skill.
what other prayers are helpful and what other coping skills are you willing to share?

Hi Flute:

I've no idea how old you are, but when I was in graduate school some 20 years ago, I used to do drug and alcohol counseling, and found the Prayer extremely helpful in my daily life, and this was before the time I really considered myself a Christian.

In the mid 90's I used to teach music to children in Sunday School. I found this wonderful song, and it too, came along at a time in my life when I needed it. I was dealing with some difficult people. The chorus of the song is: "all God's Critters Got a place in the choir. Some sing low, some sing higher. Some sing out loud on the telephone wire. While others just clap their hands, or paws, or anything they got." I was dealing with some really difficult people in my personal an professional lives. I'd be sitting ina meeting, and they'd say something that really annoyed me, and this little song just kept running through my head.

Yes i use the serenity and have useed it quite a bit, here is another I read in the morning that seems to work pretty well. No doubt motifated might reconize this one as well. grin

"God, I offer myself to Thee --
to build with me and to do with me as Thou wilt. Relieve
me of the bondage of self, that I may better do Thy will.
Take away my difficulties, that victory over them may bear
witness to those I would help of Thy Power, Thy Love, and
Thy Way of life. May I do Thy will always!"
